Zoom with a view
I'd wager that the vast majority of keen amateur and professional photographers have a 70-200 lens in their kit bag or something very similar. It covers a very useful range of focal lengths without stretching the bounds of high optical quality and practicality (weight, size etc) too far. Over the years, Nikon has produced a number of versions of their classic 70-200mm lens most with a superb f/2.8 maximum aperture and a lighter (and cheaper) f/4 version.
The latest 70-200mm lens to enter the Nikon stable is the widely celebrated Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f2.8E FL ED VR. Quite a mouthful to say but it's also quite a lens too. Nikon have made great claims about the image quality and the new Fluorite glass as well as improvements to the VR which are mooted to give 3 or 4 stops over a non stabilised lens. I had the opportunity to use once this past weekend and have decided today to take the plunge and order one (seeing a price reduction of £150 at Jessops was the clincher for me). It should prove to be the perfect companion to my new Nikon D850 when it decides to make an appearance.
