Happy 90th Sir Ken!
Short and sweet- I'd like to wish one of the greatest comedians to have graced this planet, Sir Ken Dodd, a very Happy 90th Birthday. I've had the great pleasure of seeing this guy perform on stage a number of times. He is famous for his looooong shows (I can remember the last time I saw him perform when he was a mere 88 years old and we were still trapped in our seats at 12:30 after a 7:30pm start!).
In addition I've photographed him on a number of occasions and this is on

New arrival!
A new member of the family is always a fabulous reason to celebrate and this one is no exception. Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like you to meet our new arrival - my long awaited and eagerly anticipated, Nikon D850 body.
What is more it gives me a couple of weeks to get used to it before I go to Kuala Lumpur and Borneo! #NikonD850 #D850 #Nikon70200f28FLEDVR #ProfessionalphotographerBlackpool

Wet wellies!
I'm not going to say a great deal about this image as I think it largely speaks for itself. It's 'that' time of year again (Autumn/Fall) when the trees and plants produce a wonderful display of colour that are a photographer's dream and the photographer generally ends up getting very wet! #autumn #fall #Landscapephotography #LandscapePhotographer #lakedistrict

At the end of the day
I've been revisiting a few of my older photos, reprocessing the raw files with the latest versions of the RAW converter (in this case, Adobe Lightroom). This is why I and so many other photographers shoot in raw format. You will always extract more image information and have greater flexibility in processing a raw file than you will with a straight JPEG or even a TIFF file (do any cameras still shoot in TIFF?).
In addition, as I mentioned previously, as software technology

Clouds and silver linings
We were looking forward to a well earned break in the sun (Gran Canaria to be exact). We generally stay at a private complex owned by friends of ours and so book flights independently. Our airline of choice for the trip to Gran Canaria has always been Monarch - they operate a modern fleet, comfortable extra leg-room seats (important for me) and fly from Manchester and are comparatively priced. Sadly, a couple of weeks ago they ceased trading leaving us without flight or our m

Zoom with a view
I'd wager that the vast majority of keen amateur and professional photographers have a 70-200 lens in their kit bag or something very similar. It covers a very useful range of focal lengths without stretching the bounds of high optical quality and practicality (weight, size etc) too far.
Over the years, Nikon has produced a number of versions of their classic 70-200mm lens most with a superb f/2.8 maximum aperture and a lighter (and cheaper) f/4 version. The latest 70-200mm

My boy Barney
Self indulgence time. There are 4 great loves in my life: my wonderful hard working and very patient partner, photography, a nice bottle of wine and my dogs.
I am 'Daddy' to three gorgeous Labradoodles - Lily, Barney and their 'puppy', Dolly. I've taken so many photos of them over the last few years which is quite an achievement as they rarely sit still for long. Yesterday, I received a new Nikon 85mm f/1.8 lens which is great for portraits and many other subjects and tha

"I do" ... or is that "I might"?
I first started my life as a full time professional photographer about 16 years ago (shocking how time passes by). In that time I have photographed everything from cans of Coke to Prime Ministers and members of the Royal Family. Without a doubt though, the most satisfaction came from my long period as a wedding photographer. It's incredibly hard work. Few people realise the concentration, physical demands and energy that are required of the photographer on the day as well as

Santa has come early!
I just couldn't hold out any longer. I have ordered a new Nikon D850 plus battery grip from those great people at Wex Photographic. They are Nikon Pro dealers so as I am part of the Nikon Professional Service (NPS), I get priority service which means it should be in my hot sticky hands before too long.
I doubt I'll have it before the conference I am covering next week (but you never know), but I've a rather special event at the end of the month it would be perfect for. Come

Bring on the clowns!
It's Political Conference time in the UK when those who would be our political 'masters' preach to the converted (their party faithful) and try to convince the rest of us that their promises and pledges are more plausible than those made by the other party leaders. I have to admit that when I attended my first party conference a long way back (too far to comfortably think about), I was expecting several hours of listening to dry as dust speeches from rather grey personalities
